Dare and Live is the story of raw courage in the face of overwhelming odds against
the superior military power of the Imperial Japanese Forces in Negros Islands,
Philippines. M/Sgt. Jorge G. Herrera Jr. did not surrender to the Japanese Army.
Instead, he gathered 3 Filipinos  and they started the recruitment and training of
other Guerilla Soldiers. He established a Bivouac at the mountain sides of the
Negros Island and equipped his hideout with telephone communication for
fast intelligence. He staged many ambushes against the Japanese Soldiers and
was the only Filipino Guerilla Leader who captured, alive, 21 Japanese soldiers
in an ambush encounter. The Japanese army hired a female Filipino and sent
her on a secret mission to entrap M/Sgt. Herrera, but he discovered the plot
before it could unfold.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR....




Born on May 24, 1931, in Negros Occidental, Philippines, he was orphaned by his father at 6 years old
and lived with his paternal grandparents during World War II. He graduated from the University of Negros
Occidental with Bachelor of Science in Commerce, Accounting Major, and a degree. He started as Clerk with
the Rural Bank of Bacolod City, Inc. and retired as Branch Manager of Philippine Commercial and Industrial Bank
in the Philippines. He was an Executive Board Member of Boys Scout of the Philippines, Negros Occidental Chapter,
and an Officer of Lions Club and Knights of Columbus in the Philippines. He is an author of LOOKING BACK, an autobiography. Married to Leticia Valenzuela Jardeleza with five children; Chona, Alex, Susan, Rolly and Yvonne,
Edgardo G. Calansingin resides in New Jersey, USA.
