JOHN THOMAS
There’s always an interesting story behind every book that is published and in the case of author John Thomas this is no exception. John’s youngest son, Troy has ADHD and reading problems so John wanted to help him overcome these issues while sharing his love of motorcycles in the process. He went to the library and numerous bookstores and found only a couple of chapter books about kids and motorcycles and only one story book that had a motorcycle theme to it.
This is when John came out with the great idea of crafting his own story. Following the usual round of rejections from established publishers, John set on a course to publish the book himself so he could share this wonderful adventure with everyone. And, he did an incredible job on his first effort. “Marty and the Motorcycles” has won the 2005 Pinnacle Book Achievement Award in the category of Children’s Interest.
Having good friends who believe in
you was another step in the process. John’s friends invested
their money so they could support and bring John’s dream to
life. With the help of professional illustrator Kristi Petosa-
The story centers around Marty
Smith, an 8 year old boy who lives with his family
at the edge of Cycle-
ville, where his dad owns and runs the local machine shop. Mom stays at home and keeps the books for the business.
Marty and his sister are the 5th generation of motorcycle enthusiasts. Great grandfather Claude Smith bought his first motorcycle in 1906, which started the family tradition.
As the delightful story takes place, readers will be introduced to classic motorcycles like the 1948 Harley Davidson FL and the 1972 Honda CL350.
